Hugely successful London market insurance business are seeking a Senior Accountant for their London office. The Senior Accountant is responsible for recording journals and performing reconciliations of cash, fixed assets, accruals, prepaid expenses and other assets/liabilities.  This role also includes performing allocations of G&A expenses across the various entities. The Senior Accountant is also required to assist the other Financial Accounting team members with various aspects of the monthly/quarterly close process, and other ad-hoc projects as assigned.   Insurance/Reinsurance knowledge preferred and Syndicate Accounting experience is a plus

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prepare monthly and quarterly accrual journal entries, which includes analysis of accrued liability balances
  • Record cash journal entries throughout the month for multiple entities
  • Prepare monthly bank reconciliations for multiple entities
  • Analyze and reconcile prepaid expenses and other assets.  This includes recording monthly amortization journals
  • Assist in the payroll journal process and reconcile payroll related accounts
  • Process monthly fixed asset transactions and reconcile the sub-ledger to the General Ledger
  • Reconcile and analyze non-technical intercompany transactions across all business entities on a monthly basis
  • Perform monthly expense allocation process
  • Record various General Ledger journal entries throughout the month
  • Perform monthly translation of GBP to USD
  • Analyze General & Administrative expenses by legal entity on a monthly basis
  • Analyze Balance Sheet accounts by legal entity on a monthly basis
  • Assist in the quarterly tax provision process.  Record quarterly tax provisions and perform reconciliations of recorded tax balances
  • Assist in the quarterly VAT process
  • Prepare supporting schedules and generate trial balances for other Finance departments
  • Interact with the Accounts Payable, Business Services, Financial Planning & Analysis, Technical Accounting and Treasury departments on a daily basis
  • Provide assistance to the International Tax department as necessary
  • Provide assistance to Regulatory Reporting team as necessary
  • Perform accounting research as necessary
  • Provide input and assist in maintaining the Financial Accounting department’s Sarbanes Oxley narrative and various department operation process narratives
  • Assist with internal and external audit requests
  • Provide assistance in the process improvements for the Financial Accounting function
  • Assist management with special projects

Skills, Qualifications and Experience:

  • Degree in Accounting required, ACCA / CIMA preferred
  • Five plus years’ experience in a General Accounting function
  • Self-motivated and able to work cohesively with management and team members in the US
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP
  • Strong internal control awareness
  • Strong knowledge of General Ledger Accounting System is required (including Cash Management and Fixed Asset modules).  Knowledge of SAP is required.
  • Detail oriented and strong problem solver with solid analytical abilities
  • Ability and confidence to challenge existing procedures and use of systems
  • Demonstrated positive attitude and ability to work well within a Team environment
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills – position requires interaction with numerous employees on all platforms of business
  • Advanced level Microsoft Excel skills, including pivot-tables, v-lookups and macros
  • Insurance/Reinsurance knowledge preferred
  • Syndicate Accounting experience is a plus
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in order to meet deadlines
  • Energetic and a team player
