The purpose of this role is to ensure the accurate and timely production of the financial accounting information required by management and external parties.

Key Responsibilities

• Preparation of returns for the Syndicate
• Provide quarterly reporting pack for the Syndicate
• Assist underwriter in preparation of forecasts
• Ensure the ledger reconciles to data held in other systems
• Investigate any discrepancies in the integrity of the data
• Responsible for the preparation and posting of the reinsurance transactions base on information received from the RI department
• Responsible for production of management accounts including reconciliation of balance sheet accounts
• Responsible for statutory reporting including preparation of audit file
• Assist in the monitoring of actual v forecast results
• Assist in the preparation of budgets
• Assist in the development and implementation of robust financial control framework
• Assist in the development of accounting policies in accordance with UK GAAP and IFRS
• Be a key player in the project team for development of systems to meet Solvency II and latest IFRS requirements

The role will involve interaction across many departments and locations in European Operations. There will be exposure to Senior Management, Directors, Auditors and Regulators

 Key Responsibilities

• Involvement in the completion of Ratings Agency models and assistance in the coordination of Ratings Agency visits – exposure to Group Chief Risk Officer, Chief Financial & Operating Officer and Directors
• Involvement in the planning & designing, completion and execution of future Solvency II reporting such as the SFCR, RSR, QRTs
• Involvement in the completion of current Solvency II deliverables such as QIS exercises, Lloyd’s and Company submissions
• Ownership of various regulatory returns across Europe
• Communication across various departments within European Operations
• Liaise with external regulators and auditors
• Coordinate information flow across the business for various regulatory reporting requirements

 This role is responsible for business review and analysis linking with Investor Relations and the Business Units to ensure the annual reports tell a coherent story of the group’s performance to the market.

 The production of accurate and timely information is essential in order for management to manage the business and to meet regulatory obligations

Responsibilities

• Be the key point of day-to day contact between the Group Finance team and business unit finance team(s), taking ownership of supporting the business unit Finance Directors and their teams in the day to day understanding of their financial results and the linkage to the group’s results.

• Proactively challenge business unit teams on their results and build a comprehensive understanding of the drivers, risk and issues in business performance. This will include taking ownership for the analysis and validation of submissions by the group’s companies, their financial data and information/commentary packs.

• Provide input to and support for the Group Planning Team on the monthly MI pack and planning processes.

• Take responsibility for proactively building effective partnership relationships with the business unit(s) finance teams so that the reporting processes are robust and consistently applied and deliver accurate financial results to group in accordance with the group reporting timetable.

• Where significant consolidation journals are required at group level in relation to the underlying business units, be responsible for ensuring the adjustments are complete and accurate and in accordance with the group policies.

• Draft and provide input to financial statement including drafting accounting notes, policies and disclosures on areas that are directly related to the business unit(s) that the Reporting Manager is responsible for, including confirming the accuracy of such disclosure with the business unit finance teams.

• Responsible for the provision of accounting and technical support for local finance teams to help in the analysis of data, in line with group quality standards and timelines. This will include the advice and support on accounting issues for key projects through the life cycle of the transactions, including significant acquisition accounting requirements.

• Work closely with the Resolution finance team to ensure that Resolution’s requirements of the Group Reporting Team are fully understood and are delivered by the team. This will include implementation of policies set out by the Resolution Board and delivery of requirements to timelines. Communicate proactively with the Resolution finance team.

• Responsible for ensuring that accounting and reporting standards and rules are correctly interpreted understood and consistently applied. To take ownership for the process for preparing technical accounting guidance for transactions that occur and impacting group finance.

• Provide commentary for external reporting purposes on the Group’s performance in line with regulatory and market needs. This will include drafting of financial statements as required.

• Keep up to date with external developments and own area of expertise through professional training and commercial courses so as to provide effective support and advice to Local Finance Team Management team.

Role description

 Assist the Finance Manager, Finance Director and Active Underwriter in all aspects of Lloyd’s accounting and reporting.

 Key responsibilities

 Lloyd’s reporting 

• Preparation for review of the following Lloyd’s returns; QMA, QMB, SBF, SRD, LDTF, SPTF, NAIC, TRIA (with the assistance of an assistant syndicate accountant)
• Review of the following returns prepared by the assistant syndicate accountant; PMD, Canadian reporting and US reporting
• Preparation of the management review packs for key Lloyd’s returns
• Contribute to the successful completion of audit assignments

 Statutory accounts 

• Review of the Syndicate primary statements and notes drafted by the assistant syndicate accountant for the following entities; Syndicate, Managing Agency and Corporate Member

 Agency reporting 

• Review of agency returns prepared by the assistant syndicate accountant including the QF1 and AF1
• Preparation of agency budgets for inclusion in the QF1

 General ledger

• Preparation and/or review of key balance sheet reconciliations including; premium debtors, investments, cash, overseas deposits, bureau balances, intercompany balances and claims advances
• Maintenance of Syndicate ledger, with specific responsibility for the following items:

• Calculation and accounting of Lloyd’s division intragroup quota share arrangements
• Accounting and reporting of Funds in Syndicate capital arrangements, including interest charges and allocation of investment return

 Group reporting

• Preparation of a currency balance sheet for the Lloyd’s division
• Preparation and review of the intragroup quota share packs

 Projects

Assist in the successful completion of the following projects: 

• Direct reporting for service company underwriting
• Gross quarterly data reporting
• Playback reporting
• Clarity implementation (group reporting package)

From a Finance perspective, own the process and consolidation of the Division’s finance and business plans to ensure their timely production and completion.

Lead ad hoc joint Finance/Divisional projects to significantly improve financial and commercial awareness.

Change Management and insurance experience required.

Responsible for Syndicate monthly result’s commentary (plan v actual), annual planning and quarterly re-forecasting exercise, planning models, incorporating Solvency II including P&L attribution, Board reporting, MI pack, Group and annual expenses.

Graduate, Qualified Accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA), experience of managing teams, insurance experience, understanding of Lloyd’s market / syndicates.
