Job Title – Financial Accountant

Reporting to Financial Controller

1. Purpose

The primary purpose of the role is to maintain the financial accounting function.

2. Specific Responsibilities

Management reporting:

  • Preparation of monthly UK management accounts including monthly management reports, specific insurance/reinsurance reports, and other required analyses
  • Analytical review and commentary on management accounts, as required
  • Preparation and review of financial schedules for Board report

Financial and management accounting:

  • Documentation, reconciliation and analysis of interfaces to the General Ledger for insurance Business, profit commission and outwards reinsurance
  • Review of balance sheet accounts as part of the month end close process e.g. fixed assets, accruals and prepayments, accrued interest income
  • Review and authorisation of the booking of expenses into the general ledger
  • Tie in of external actuarial report data to accounting ledgers
  • Preparation of budget and forecast data for General and Admin expenses of the UK companies
  • Day to day management of the company’s bank accounts
  • Preparation of quarterly VAT returns

Annual returns:

  • Preparation of non UK regulatory returns (e.g. NAIC, FET) as required
  • Preparation of statutory accounts under IFRS

3. Essential Skills & Knowledge

  • Professional accounting qualification, new qualified or studying for final exams
  • Minimum 2 to 3 years’ experience specifically gained in an insurance/reinsurance environment
  • IFRS experience preferred
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to work on one’s own initiative
  • Proficient in the Microsoft Office Suite of applications with Intermediate skills in Excel (e.g. Pivot tables, Lookups, Nested IF clauses)
